New Years and January 2012

The New Year starts with a 15-minute long bang in the Smokies and offers plenty of great entertainment and activity for Winterfest long after the holidays are over.

Gatlinburg is, naturally, the center of the biggest party in the Great Smoky Mountains during New Years Eve. The Pyro-shows production company will be playing music from the center of town until the countdown starts. Once the ball drops from the Space Needle to ring in the New Year, the tower will explode in a prolonged and incredible fireworks display the likes of which you won't see for another year! Only Gatlinburg offers something that grand here in the Smokies.

Following shortly after that is another major treat for visitors to the mountains with the ever-popular Wilderness Wildlife Week in Pigeon Forge. This is a week-long treat, from January 7th to the 14th for nature lovers as it promises plenty of lectures, presentations, guest speakers, a gorgeous photographic exhibit, vendor with nature supplies and much more! “Mountain perfection”

We just got back from an anniversary weekend at Deer Ridge.... I must say the pictures do not do this place justice. Each condo is individually owned so decor will be different. We stayed in a one bedroom, C107. Decor was back to nature/bears. Very nice!!.. Had videos to watch, games to play, kitchen stocked with utensils & cookware. .... but never messed with these things because all I wanted to do was sit on the porch & stare at the spectacular view!!... Simply amazing!! ... Staff is very warm & helpful. ... They even had a bottle of wine & card for us upon arrival!! What a nice special touch!! .. They say that buildings A & B have the best sunrise views, C&D, the mountain views & E has the sunsets!... So hard to pick one!! .. Guess we will have to come back & stay in each building!!

"Our balcony had an incredible view! The hotel was a bit out of the way, but I had no problem with that. Nice place, only problem we had was we could hear the guests above us at night when we were trying to sleep. We both typically sleep with a fan on, so that could have been one reason we had trouble. Had we brought one, it would have been perfect."

“In the Smokies”
We didn't have much of a surrounding neighboorhood - we were 2500 feet up in the Smokies - this is what we wanted, so we had to get used to no neighborhood here - had to stock up on food - we had a full kitchen. It was 10 mile into town. Great balcony sceen looking at the mountains. These were condos tha were maintained my a management service. There was no daily turning of the beds or the room, but we were able to get what we required from the staff - all was good and we had an excellent stay - the price was right also for a full 2 bedroom, living room and a full kitchen overlooking the smookies

“Can't wait to go back!”
We really enjoyed our stay at Deer Ridge! All of the rooms have a beautiful view to the Smoky Mountains. Our room was very clean and neat, we felt like home. The staff was very friendly. If you decide to visit the Smoky Mountains, Deer Ridge is the place to stay, we would definitely go back there!

“Home away from home”

I don't know whether to start with the beauty of the location, the nice clean condos or the fantastic customer service.

In recent years, I've almost forgot what customer service meant. Deer Ridge was a reminder of what wonderful true customer service is. Without a doubt! I can't say enough about how nice everyone who worked there was about EVERYTHING from a stamp for a postcard and a child with a nosebleed.

We walked the trail behind the parking lot, took full advantage of the indoor pool and hot tub and got to see a wedding on the deck. I loved drinking coffee out on the balcony in the morning and watching the clouds scroll over the mountains in the afternoon.

If you are looking for a nice getaway, this is your spot. We have been back every year since my husband and I were married 10 years ago and plan to continue.
Room Tip: Book close to the office on cool months so your run from the pool/hot tub will be short.

We had a short, but amazing experience at Deer Ridge! We stayed in a Mountain View Condo, and the view was AWESOME! The condo (2 bed, 2 bath) was fully furnished, clean, and very comfortable.

If I had any criticism, it would be that the location of the resort is a little farther from the city than we would have liked, but it only took about 15 minutes to get to downtown Gatlinburg.

“Exactly What We Were Looking For”

Our experience at Deer Ridge Mountain Resort was exactly the kind of accommodation we were looking for. We wanted to be in a more rural, scenic area away from the commercial commotion of Gatlinburg; we wanted a place where we would have enough space for ourselves and our two adult children; and be able to relax.

The property is beautiful, not far from one of more popular trail heads. Once you get used to the drive up to the property (best done in daylight for the first time), we were never more than 20 minutes from shopping and restaurants.

The building could use a bit of TLC (some cracks in the walls, caulking around the tub, etc.), but very clean and otherwise well maintained.

We would definitely stay here again, and would highly recommend this to our friends.

“A wonderful surprise”

We enjoyed our stay at Deer Ridge Mountain Resort. Our boys slept in the loft (they loved the spiral stair case and the flat screen TV in their room). We had 3 flat screen TVs - living room, master, and loft.

The indoor swimming pool was perfect - and typically empty as others were at the outdoor pool. The views are amazing!

Admittedly, the balconies are small... perfect for two chairs and a small table. The size, and height, made me a feel a bit uneasy the first time I stepped out. By the end of the day it was great sitting on the balcony, however.

Perhaps my only complaint are the wasps/bees. The gaps in the wood seemed to welcome their nesting. They never bothered us on the balcony, but they were plentiful enough that we always kept an eye on them.

The drive to the resort is a bit far from Gatlinburg... perhaps too long if you're staying a week. For a long weekend it didn't bother us. The roads are those like a log cabin - narrow, steep and winding. Yet they're well kept and easy to navigate.

The room offered a baby crib (for a small fee) and wireless internet access (not the greatest signal, but it worked).

In the end I found this resort to be a great value. The views are great - the amenities are perfect - the fact it's a condo (full kitchen, etc) rather than a hotel room is a great bonus.
Room Tip: Buildings A & B across from play ground.

"Nice option for large family"

For a traveling party of 7, this provided a great alternative to 2 hotel rooms. The views of the mountains were absolutely beautiful and we had all the necessary items for a family. We found the associates working the front desk to be completely charming, helpful and professional. Though the place was older in its decor and furnishing, we absolutely would consider staying again.

Best Views of the Smokies

First, I must state that I may be biased, due to the fact that I found a great deal on this place. Now let me tell you what I liked about this place. The views are absolutely awesome! I dealt with three members of the staff over the two nights we stayed, and each of them was very friendly and accomodating. This place is a peaceful place, located 10 miles from Gatlinburg, which was a personal preference. Although the resort is 25 years old, it is apparent that management takes pride in maintaining their resort. Very clean condos and surroundings. The one thing that may be a negative is , from the inside of your condo, you can hear other guests walking up and down the wooden stairs to their respective condos. I strongly recommend this place!!!

I don't know where to start. The condo was spotless, the beds were very comfy, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. We were there in January and used the fireplace both nights we were there which made it sooo cozy. They sell bundles of firewood and kindling at the office. The kitchen is fully furnished. We went away for a relaxing weekend and got just that! Can't wait to go back!

"Smoky Mountain"

"Great weekend getaway"

Place is very clean, beautiful mountain view, clean air, very quite. During the day we went downtown to see some shows and shopping. Saturday evening spent on the deck for complimentary dinner and music entertainment. Sauna, jacuzzi, and indoor pool were very relaxing as well. We want to come back!!!

"Amazing Family Vacation"

We had people staying at another resort and they agreed that this resort did indeed have the best view of the smokey mountains. The indoor pool had very warm water..which was great for my 4yr old, since we stayed in Jan. Overall I was very pleased with my stay and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I will deff. be back

The Resort was very clean, we had a mountain view as promised. The golf course was very nice and a couple of greens were visible from the balcony. The bed mattress was a little firm, but we enjoyed our stay. No smell, floors and everything else was very clean. Would definitly stay there again. A beautiful mountaintop location. Your GPS will take you to the wrong place. Look at a map or call for directions. You go up and up, but just keep going. Our condo was clean and comfortable. Wish i would have thought to request a ground level condo, traveling with two friends whose suitcases I had to carry down a flight of stairs. Convenient location for all the local sights, but wouldn't have wanted to go up and down that mountain too often.
