Thanksgiving Events For 2015

Alright, it's turkey time in Tennessee and we're going to have our traditional set of Thanksgiving events going on in town with some little additions this year to extend the fun out through to early December.

First and foremost, Gatlinburg's trio of events at W.L. Mills Auditorium is back on this year between 11/24/15 to 11/29/15, and this year it even extends right into the starting Christmas events in early December. Gatlinburg Festival of Trees (11/25/15 - 11/29/15), The Great Smoky Mountains Thanksgiving Arts and Crafts Show (11/24/15 - 11/29/15) and return performances of The Nutcracker "Sweet" on 11/27/15 and 11/28/15. There's even opportunities, between the 27th and the 28th for you and your family to see all three events in one day! Visit www.gatlinburg.com for more information on those events.

And then, quite literally right after the 29th, the the Great Smoky Christmas Arts and Crafts Show continues on from the Thanksgiving show listed above between November 30th and December 6th. The Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade (as in THE biggest Christmas Parade in East Tennessee) goes on on December 4th. Again, www.gatlinburg.com is where you want to go for more info on that.

We look forward to the week full of activities for visitors and we look forward to the families coming to Deer Ridge to enjoy their family feast! See what sort of Deer Ridge amenities families enjoy at www.deerridge.com.

Winter Magic Kickoff For 2015

We had a blast as expected with the Sunset Festivals this year, and because the build up to the full Autumn bloom was slower, we had even more time to savor in the color change. Thank you to all who came out to party with us!

Winterfest is up next and we celebrate it the way we have traditionally for years here in Gatlinburg with the Winter Magic Kickoff and Chili Cookoff at Ripley's Aquarium on November 11th. The event actually begins, appropriately, with a Veteran's Day tribute at the Aquarium at 11:00AM.

From there, the main event in downtown Gatlinburg begins at 5:00PM and the entire street from Ripley's Aquarium to Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum gets shut down to accommodate all the chili vendors, entertainment and visitors expected to attend. Ticket sales are only required for sampling the chili, the rest of the entertainment is largely free for people of all ages to come and attend. Then, when the sun goes down, the big switch is thrown to officially begin the million-dollar Winterfest lighting displays and the Trolley Tour of Lights.

You can see more on this event at http://www.gatlinburg.com/events/details.aspx?id=11. We hope to see you for the Winterfest season!

Tax Free Weekend 2015

If you weren't already familiar, the Tax Free Weekend in Tennessee is a surprisingly big occasion. From August 7th to the 9th, it's when we take all taxes off of school, art and clothing supplies that you can find throughout our area - any appropriate item less than $100 each and any computers that cost $1,500 - and would you believe we sometimes get see as many visitors as if it were Labor Day Weekend?

Well, we do, and the logic is that this is an excellent opportunity to save on school supplies that would be needed anyway, why not get one last weekend getaway in the Smokies with the kids before school starts while we can?

And a good question that is - why not? Why not take advantage of this and our discounts and specials at Deer Ridge to end the Summer season with a blast? We have luxury amenities for all tastes, swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, tennis court and many other items perfect for a late Summer family vacation.

See our specials and amenities at www.deerridge.com.

The 4th of July is coming up very soon and we wanted to keep you up to date on the events going on here in the Smokies.

In Gatlinburg, the events start as soon as the 3rd of July ends with the 4th of July Midnight Parade on the main downtown street where you and your whole family can see some of the best, brightest and most patriotic floats in the country for over an hour of fun.

Then, the morning after, The River Raft Regatta starts at 10:00AM and is another fun activity for the whole family, particularly younger kids, as you can watch all manners of small objects race down the river to cross the finish line first at Ripley's Aquarium. You can see more information on that at http://www.gatlinburg.com/events/details.aspx?id=33.

Finally, the big show begins at 10:00PM with the Independence Day fireworks you've all been looking forward to, and you don't have to go anywhere but the main sidewalk in downtown Gatlinburg to see the fireworks overhead.
